The Technical Museum in Vienna
Exhibition in Vienna: Macht Musik
The Technical museum in Vienna opened in May 1918. It shows various technical inventions and models from the past to the present. Particularly technological developments in the Austrian history are exhibited.
On an area of 22.000 square meters technical exhibits from the history of railway, naval architecture and aviation are displayed. It also shows one of the largest collections of ancient instruments. The museum offers a remarkable indoor tourist mine, in which the visitors can explore life and work in a colliery, as well as a high voltage laboratory, an original steam engine and the drawing-room of the Empress Elisabeth.
Various special exhibitions attract visitors from all over the world. From September 2010 to June 2011 sound and music are the subjects of the exhibition “Macht Musik” in the Technical museum in Vienna. All sorts of instruments, computers, sound machines and mixer consoles are displayed. You also have the opportunity to test all sorts of technical and musical devices. In workshops you learn about different styles of music and how to make your own music. This exhibition attracts not only fans of music, professionals and amateurs, but also offers a kids program.
In November the exhibition will be complemented by “Schifter macht Jazz” – a story about the radio host and jazz connoisseur Günther Schifter (1923-2008). His large collection of mainly jazz and swing records from the 20s to the 50s will be displayed at the exhibition “Macht Musik”.
