The Leopold Collection is one of the most important collections of modern Austrian art in the world. The Leopold Museum shows masterpieces of the Viennese Secessionist Movement, the Viennese Modernist Movement and the Austrian Expressionist Movement.
The collection of Rudolf and Elisabeth Leopold comprises more than 5.000 exhibits, collected over five decades. In 1994 the Leopold Collection was consolidated into the Leopold Museum Private Foundation and is shown at Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier since 2001.
Largest Egon Schiele Collection Worldwide at Leopold Museum in Vienna
The Leoopld Museum in Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier (MQ) presents the largest Egon Schiele collection in the world, together with major works by Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka, Richard Gerstl and Albin Egger-Lienz.
In addition to the permanent exhibition the museum also offers several special exhibitions, changing regularly.
Special exhibition 'Giacometti – Cézanne – Picasso' at Leopold Museum in Vienna
From 17th September 2010 till 17th January 2011 for the first time in Austria the Leopold Museum is showing a representative cross-section from the collection of the Beyeler Foundation in Basel. Starting in autumn 2010, a singular collaboration has made it possible for the Leopold Museum in Vienna to present leading masterpieces of Impressionism and Classical Modernism – from Monet to Picasso. Since the museum was established, it never happened that such a huge number of major art works left the Beyeler Collection at once. The distinguished collectors, Ernst Beyeler and Rudolf Leopold, have both personally selected the pieces for this exhibition.
