The Hotel Stefanie’s ideal location – only a few minutes on foot from Vienna’s 1st district – has attracted travellers for more than 400 years. The history of the hotel, now privately owned by the Schick family, reaches back that far. Under their motto ‘Over a century of Viennese charm’ , the Schick Hotel Group manages four additional hotels in Vienna as well as three restaurants in which the traditions of Viennese cuisine are respected in all their variety.
In the Schick Hotel Stefanie you can enjoy an ideal combination of historical flair side by side with modern comfort. There’s much that can be said even about the hotel’s address in the Taborstrasse, which has had special meaning for the imperial city of Vienna since the beginning.
Even in the15th century, the most important hotels for buyers, coachmen and drivers were located here, directly in front of the walls surrounding the city centre. In the 17th century, hotel building in the Taborstrasse boomed and it was at that time that the building of today's Hotel Stefanie received a hotel concession. A document of 4 May 1630 gave all building owners on that part of the street, close to the 1st District, the privilege of accommodating ‘foreigners and serving meals for payment.’ In 1703, today's Hotel Stefanie was mentioned for the first time. In 1728, a certain Josepha Winkler acquired the ‘Weiße Rose’ Hotel - today's Hotel Stefanie – at 12 Taborstrasse. 70 years later, in 1798, the ‘Weiße Rose’ Hotel was mentioned in Vienna’s first hotel guide.
In 1880, the great-grandfather of today's owner, Martin Schick, acquired the ‘Weiße Rose’ Hotel, which is indicated in the hotel guide of 1873 as having 110 rooms and thus ranked among the largest hotels in Vienna at that time. Today, the Hotel Stefanie is appreciated by international guests as a 4-star hotel with genuine Viennese charm.
